Start with these questions.

This list does not certify a transaction or calculate a safety score. Each answer may lead to further checks.

  1. What are you being asked to send?

Write down the asset, amount, recipient, purpose and deadline. Keep the commercial proposal separate from the payment evidence: they are different things.

  2. Has your bank confirmed the credit?

If the deal depends on a bank transfer, contact your bank through a channel you already know. Ask about status and availability; a PDF from the counterparty does not replace that confirmation.

  3. What does the reference establish?

Swift uses the UETR to track payments. A reference or logo copied into a document cannot, by itself, confirm a credit. GPI and “S2S” are not conclusions about a transaction.

    Official source: Swift ↗
  4. Do the network and asset match?

For USDT, check the network and contract against Tether's official documentation. A wallet's displayed name, symbol or image is not enough to identify a token.

    Official source: Tether ↗
  5. What does the transaction show?

Check the correct network, status, asset, amount and destination in its explorer. Then separate those facts from claims about the parties' identities or the rest of the agreement.

  6. Are you asked to pay to unlock funds?

The FBI documents investment scams demanding supposed taxes or fees to withdraw. In that situation, do not send more money to unlock it; contact your bank or platform through official channels.

    Official source: FBI ↗
  7. What remains unconfirmed?

Write down open questions and keep a timeline and sources. If you have already sent funds, promptly contact your bank or platform and the relevant authority. Buying a report is not required to do that.
